What is a Swedish Massage?
A Swedish massage and other types of therapeutic massages are performed by trained, licensed massage therapists. It can be slow and gentle, or vigorous and deep depending on what you request from your massage therapist.
A Swedish massage aims to induce relaxation. Depending on the masseur a combination of strokes to the muscles and surrounding tissues can be used which include sliding, kneading, tapping, vibration and friction; the most commonly used and very relaxing sliding strokes.
When physiotherapists massage they are doing it for a purpose to help you recover from an injury or surgery and reduce pain. They can also use massage to help prevent you having an injury or pain and before surgery to help your rehab be quicker after surgery.
Physiotherapy can include massage as one of the treatments.
Sports massage therapy if regular helps to prevent injuries happening or pain developing in the body. They also help people recover from injuries quicker and help reduce pain.
The massage manipulates the soft tissues of the body including the skin, muscles and connective tissue and this helps to reduce tension, improve alignment, improve movement, reduce pain and help make your body in better condition.
Massage is beneficial to help return blood flow to the heart increasing oxygen levels in the blood and improving circulation and getting rid of toxins. It also helps to improve flexibility and reduce tension.
