Occupational Therapists

People can be helped by Occupational Therapists to regain the ability to do things they were able to before their injury or condition. Things that have have purpose and meaning to them. The ultimate aim being to helping their clients regain independent lives and not having to rely so much on others.

Some of the services our occupational therapists can offer include:

  • Assessing the home and advising on and making modifications to aspects such as ramps, grab bars, toilet seats, doorways, floors, placing of furniture.
  • Working on improving function in daily activities such as eating, dressing, going out, reaching.
  • Wheelchair assessments
  • Splinting
  • Workstation assessments and ergonomics for business

Occupational therapists evaluate the daily activities of individuals, both children and adults, in their home, recreational pursuits, and workplace. Through this analysis, they identify any obstacles hindering or rendering these activities challenging to perform.

They will then help to make this activity no longer impossible or a lot easier by teaching strategies and ordering equipment that can assist such as computers, mobility aids and wheelchairs, shoe horns, non slip shower mats etc. They can also organise changes to an environment like fitting ramps or grab rails on the walls or by introducing a step.

The Occupational Therapist can assess you in your normal life and look at the barriers you are facing stopping you being able to do the things you want to do. For example they can watch you moving around YOUR home, watch you cooking, washing, dressing, walking outside and exiting and entering the home and any difficulties with getting from one floor to the other at home. Reenacting your own home cannot be done in a clinic setting effectively.
