How Kinesio Taping could Benefit your Child’s Posture and Movement

or call us today at 0207 884 0374

Kinesio Taping is the use of an elastic tape designed to provide muscle and joint support without restricting movement. It was developed by a Japanese doctor over 30 years ago but has only recently been used in the UK and has been shown to be an effective treatment in the paediatric population.

Our physiotherapists can assess your child’s posture and movement patterns to determine the appropriate application. The tape is applied directly to the skin and can be used to improve muscle contraction of a weakened muscle, inhibit contraction of an overused muscle or a muscle with increased tone, and assist with retraining a muscle. The tape is applied differently depending on the desired outcome and physiotherapy goals. The benefit of Kinesio Taping is that it does not restrict movement and can be used in conjunction with other physiotherapy treatments.

The Kinesio Tape can be worn for 6-7 days before re-application and our physiotherapists will continually evaluate it’s effectiveness. Our physios can also teach the family on how to apply the tape.  It is better to tape one muscle group for 4-6 weeks to get the most effective results before moving onto another group of muscles.

Kinesio Taping can be used for:

  • Enhancement of gross motor skills
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Hemiplegia
  • Torticollis
  • Brachial plexus injuries
  • Postural Alignment
  • Joint/ligament instability
  • Scoliosis
  • Hypotonia (low muscle tone)

Do you think Kinesio Taping could help your child?  Contact us today to arrange an appointment with one of our specialist paediatric physios who can assess your child either at home or school.  Call us on 0207 884 0374 or email info@physiocomestoyou.com.
